TNFF 2017 Call for Submissions


Toronto Nepali Film Festival (TNFF) is now accepting entries for its 8th annual festival to be held on April 1st, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and April 2nd, 2017 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The annual film festival screens films that pertain to Nepal and is open to both Nepali and non-Nepali filmmakers worldwide.


The annual film festival is the flagship event of TNFF, a not-for-profit organization based in Toronto that promotes all genres of Nepali films, including fiction, documentary, animation, shorts, experimental and musical.  TNFF celebrates films based on indigenous languages of Nepal such as Maithili, Newari, Limbu, Dhimal and Gurung amongst many others. TNFF also highly encourages the participation of women and members of marginalized communities.


All films screened at the Festival will receive an honorarium determined by the length of the film. An Audience Choice and Jury Choice award will also be presented at the end of the festival which carry a monetary value of CAD$1500 and CAD$500 respectively.

  • Films must pertain to Nepal or Nepalis and/or by a Nepalis

  • All films MUST include subtitles in English.

  • All films submitted must include a completed TNFF 2017 Call for Submission entry form


Selection Criteria

TNFF 2017 Jury will select films based on merit and the content of the films. The jury will consider relevant Nepali narratives, methods of storytelling, new genres in the context of Nepali filmmaking, technical finesse, and other attributes of filmmaking in the selection process.


Selection Process

TNFF 2017 Jury will review the submissions by early to mid-January 2017 and all filmmakers will be notified via email subsequently. The official selection of the films will be announced on the TNFF website.


Instructions for Submission

  • Fill out online entry form here.

  • Online screeners are to be emailed and are highly encouraged. If the screener is password protected, the access code or password of the screener must be emailed to programming@tnff.ca. Please include the name of the film in the email subject line. Be prepared to ship a DVD copy upon request if we require it.

  • If you do not have online screener, you must submit two copies of your film in DVD (PAL or NTSC) in Kathmandu. If you are submitting from elsewhere, please directly ship the DVDs to our address in Toronto. Please ensure to label all the media with your name, title of the work, date of production and package them properly.
    *** TNFF cannot assume responsibility for damage or loss incurred during shipment. Please carefully package your submission.

  • Each film submitted must be accompanied by its own entry form. If you are submitting more than one film, each entry must have a separate entry form.

Films can be dropped off in Kathmandu, Nepal or directly shipped to Toronto.

Note for shipments to Toronto, Canada:

All deliveries from international participants must be marked: "NO COMMERCIAL VALUE".  Please do not claim any monetary value over $50 on your package for insurance or otherwise to avoid customs charges, duties and taxes.  TNFF will not accept or collect C.O.D. shipments and will not accept shipments incurring expenses for duties, taxes or customs brokerage.  TNFF cannot assume responsibility for damage or loss incurred during shipment. Please carefully package your submission.



All films submitted will be retained by TNFF for its archives and for its educational programs. The retained films will NOT be used for any commercial screenings.
