Nayantara Gurung Kakshapati
NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati is a photographer and curator based in Kathmandu, Nepal. Her work seeks to embrace themes such as change, identity, gender and history. She enjoys working across platforms to connect visuals, sound, research, education, activism; using storytelling as an underlying approach. In 2007, she co-founded photo.circle, a photography platform that facilitates learning, networking, publishing, and marketing opportunities for Nepali photographers. In 2010, she co-founded the Nepal Picture Library; a digital photo archive that strives to document a ground-up history of the Nepali people. In 2015 she co-founded Photo Kathmandu, Nepal's very own international photography festival.
Rinchen Dolma Lama
Born in Kathmandu, Rinchen Lama is a community arts practitioner whose focus is predominantly on storytelling through theatre and movement. She is currently the Administrative Coordinator at Rebels with a Cause Film Festival, a festival that showcases artistic reflections of social justice issues and critical documentations of unsung community work. Rinchen is also the founder of Made in Exile:Theatre Collective, a collective of Tibetan youth who explore the stories of living in exile and navigating through life in diaspora. Her passion for community arts have brought her to TNFF.
Nepalese filmmaker Subarna Thapa was born in 1973 in Kalaiya-Bara and has lived in France since 1999. A graduate in dramatic arts from the Cours Florent, Paris, he has played many roles in both France and Nepal, honing his craft at the Comédie Française, and also with the Japan Foundation in Tokyo and the Asia Society in New York. His first short film, Malami (Funeral) – 2008, screened in different int'l short film festivals and awarded, was broadcast on France 3.
SOONGAVA-dance of the orchids is his first feature length and the first film in the 60 years of Nepal’s cinema history to tackle the theme of same-sex relationships.
